Problem Downloading Files

As part of my school tuition, all students who enroll are given a Fujitu Lifebook 4000 for school and home use, in which the harddrive has been partitioned for both using Partition Magic 8.0. It seems to work fine for everything, nothing excellent in particular, except for the fact that all my downloads happen to be copied onto my harddrive incorrectly, and becomes corrupted. This is almost always the case, with few exceptions from large servers like apple.com and download.com. Most other servers, like my anti-virus update center's, and others like crysis-online.com hardly ever are usable. This is especially frustrating, especially because I can't even download my own homework from my school's site. I've scanned for viruses, defragmented the volume, and check the disc for reading errors, in which it found two and repaired, but none helped. Any ideas?

This happened to me a couple of days ago, for me it was the HD. Is S.M.A.R.T. telling you anything is wrong with the drive?

Hey, I've heard of S.M.A.R.T before, but how do I use it (remember I can't download it, and my other rig is being repaired.)

Umm, my code didn't come out quite like yours. It said "...may run if the volume is dismounted first."

That makes sense, considering this is a loaner computer, since Fujitsu didn't send enough new laptops in the first place. Who knows what happened to the RAM after a year or so.
