Problem d/l-ing media from newsgroups

My DSL provider offers newsgroups with bianaries.

How do I actually d/l stuff? Here's what happens to me:

I look at the message in Outlook express and see that it has an attachment, so I open the message and try to download it. It downloads fine, but 99% of the time, I endup with a useless file on my desktop. I can't seem to open them with anything, except for notepad. When I open it in notepad, I see a whole lot of random characters.

Downloaded files won't open in Windows Media Player or anything like that. Also, changing file extensions doesn't really help.

What am I doing wrong? Also, is there any way to schedule multiple message downloads? Any software better than Outlook Express?

Most files that are on the Newsgroups apart from the obvious mpg/jpg format is what is known as a RAR file , a RAR file is a archived file .

A RAR file is made using WinRar which is kind of similar to WinZip in it's ability to compress data into a smaller format , but with WinRar your also able to archive the file into many smaller pieces.

What normally happens is someone will say take an game say around 700mb in size , first they will image the file using one of the many burning applications out there (ISO,BIN+CUE,CCD come to mind) and then they will archive the image into lots of smaller files each with an individual name/number and then post them to the Newsgroups.

So for you to get this game so to speak you basically have to work backwards , first downloading all the neccessary RAR files , then archiving them into one file (image file in this case) and then using the same burning application burning the image onto disk.

Thanks GAZZA. Newsbin pro does everything and is pretty easy to figure out. Didn't even have to mess with Rar files. Now if I could only find a crack for newsbin pro... hehehe...
