Problem copying folders from XP to XP

I have two pc's networked through a router and I am making one of them a file server of sorts. I have tried to copy several folders over that are rather large in size (6GB, 12GB, etc.) and both have not finished. one gave a cyclic redundancy error and the other had the following error. "cannot create or replace natas:Invalid MS-DOS function".
They both got ~3GB and 8GB respectivley and there is plenty of room on the destination drive.
Does XP have issues with large file transfers? How can I figure out exaclty what is causing this?
