i just got back my sony vaio laptop back from repair. they reformatted the computer and installed whatever was on the recovery cd. now i'm having problems getting on the internet.
i can connect to my wireless router via the wireless card and get a ip addy of 192
and i can connect to the router via cat-5 cable and get an ip addy of 192.

i can even ping google.com. but i am unable to connect to any website via IE or connect to aim or msn?

anyone know what could the problem be and the possible solution?

i even connected the computer directly to the modem and still the same problem, correct ip addy, but can not connect to any websites.

May be a Software Firewall is blocking your traffic.

Otherwise.

In General you can debug the Network Setting of the computer following these steps.

Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer?s Device Manager. Make sure that the drivers are installed correctly; there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Step Two.Verify Basic network setting in the OS: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify
If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but functionally it does not work.

Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet
