Problem connecting Linksys Gigabit NIC (EG1032V2) to WRT54GS

I upgraded one of my NICs from an old 3Com to a Linksys Gigabit NIC EG1032V2. I can connect using the 3Com NIC without any problems but when I use the EG1032, Windows XP tells me my network cable is unplugged. The router shows a slow blinking light on the port to which the EG1032 is connected. The weird thing is, if I connect the EG1032 directly to my cable modem (bypassing the WRT54GS), it works fine. I know I am missing something obvious but can't figure it out. Neither google nor Linksys knowledge base searches produced anything useful.

Addendum: Same cable used on EG1032V2 for all tests. All ports tested on router.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!
