Problem burning 80 min of audio

I'm burning PNY 80-min CD-R's with a Yamaha 8424 burner using EZCD 4. No problems burning 74-min CD-R's or even < 74 mins of audio on the PNY's. But yesterday I attempted to record 78 mins and now the last song skips badly (Champagne Supernova, no less!). Rest of the tracks are perfect. Checked the bottom of the CD-R, no scratches or crap on the CD-R when it was burned, source data was clean as well. Anyone else have this problem with this CD-R or burner? My guess is the dye is unstable at the outer edges of the CD.

Does the 8424 officially support 80 minute CD-R's? That would be the most likely problem. If the blank CD is rated to hold 80 minutes, I would doubt it has anything to do with the disc unless you somehow got a bad batch.

The 8424 definitely supports 80 minute discs.

Unfortunately, there are compatability problems with 80 minute discs because they don't comply to the CD specification. Skipping towards the end is a common problem. This problem is, however, related to the quality of the blank. Cheap nasty discs do this very frequently, whereas it is simlpy not a problem on high quality discs.

If you really want to use these discs, then you could try burning at a slower speed, e.g. 1x - sometimes this helps.
