Ok, everything was perfectly normal last night after turning off the computer. I turn it on this morn, and while booting, it doesn't seem to be recognizing my Verbatim CDROM. On loading it shows up like w3%@#VeRbAt$@IM!!%#$%$#!!, not exactly like that but close. I try to boot in regular and safe mode, and it halts at mup.sys, and I can't boot off the CDROM b/c whatever happened to my CD Driver is probably now corrupted.

I was thinking that this may be a virus? The funny thing is that I just scanned everything using updated Norton, Spybot 1.3, and Adaware SE and everything was fine.

My specs btw:

WinXP Pro SP2
Verbatim 48X CDROM/burner
DVDROM (not hooked up though)
1 Gig Corsair RAM
BFG 6800 Ultra
Athlon XP 2600+
Gigabyte GA-7N400 nForce 2 rev 2 board

I just installed XP last week, so I doubt it's a compatibility problem. Everything was working great. Any help would be appreciated. :)

If you have a usb card, take it out.
then try it.

Otherwise, take out all non essential hardware, only keep hdd, vga, cpu, ram, cd... disable all onboard integrated periphs.
Try that
