Had to move my nic card to make room for an isa modem. after loading up again i looked in device manager and it says "realtek adapter #2" I didn't remove the drivers before i moved it the first time. Now there is a conflict. I cant view my other computers. I'm using windows 2000

Unbind the card in the network setting. Take out the card, Reboot into Safe Mode, go to Control Panel System Device Manager, and remove the card's installation.

Shut off, Insert the card, reboot and reinstall; bind the card back in network setting.

If it still does not work, it means that the card does not like the IRQ of the slot. Under such condition, you will have to play with PCI slots until you find the best setting.

You've got what's called a ghost adapter - no longer present but still in registry. Happens when you take out the adapter without first removing it in device manager. Go to command prompt and enter "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1". Then go into device manager and configure it to show hidden devices. You'll then see it, and can uninstall it.

After i first posted the message I uninstalled my adapter in device manager then shut down pulled the card, put it back into the origainal slot it was working in and booted up. and it worked again. So i uninstalled it this time and put it in another pci slot and no work, same thing with all other pci slots. Now it wont even work in the original slot. I tried what obenton said and it shows

Direct Parallel
RAS Async adapter
Realtek adapter
wan miniport (IP)
wan miniport (l2pt)
wan miniport (pptp)

all of which i probably need. sure could use your advice.

thanks
