problem accessing windows update with 64 bit XP & IE7 64 bit

it is telling me i need a 32 bit browser to access windows update, my question is this - is micosoft going to upgrade it or am i screwed as i do not want to install another browser just to get to windows update. also, is there someplace that lists the updates for XP 64 bit as well as a download of them? thank you

You have IE 32 bit and IE 64 bit installed simultaneously. Use the 32 bit IE for Windows update. Both are installed by default, so if you don't have the 32 bit version, you had to actively uninstall it (is that even possible?).

no, the 32 bit version is not installed and i did not uninstall it. i used nlite to make install cd and integrated the 64 bit browser into the install cd.

Well, you should have left IE 32 bit in, as anything else will be a kludge. However, there's always something like this. Or you could make your life easier by installing Firefox and using this.

well i tried to install firefox and IE 6 32 BIT and was told in the firefox case that i could not access windows updated using that and when i tried to install IE 6 it would not install. but then i went to windows update intending to ask for assistance and guess what? it ran fine and i updated my computer. not sure what changed but oh well

You need a 32-bit browser to use 32-bit plugins, it's impossible for a 64-bit browser to load 32-bit plugins or vice versa. I would be really surprised if MS didn't release a 64-bit version of their WU ActiveX for XP64 and now Vista64.
