Probelms with CompactFlash reader from NewEgg.com!

I recently purchased the $22 CF reader, and a 128MB CF card from newegg.com, and it doesn't seem to be working! I am running windows 2000, and I put the CD that came with it to install the drivers.

I plugged the reader into an open USB port before I even started up the computer, but I am not sure when I should put the card itself in. The little light on the top of the reader goes on, so I know it's not broken....anybody konw what 's up? It doesn't show up in "My Computer" as a removable drive like the back of the box said it would.

ok remove the drives altogether, unplug the device, then whence its uninstalled, plug the usb cable back in, when it comes up with finding a new device, install the drivers, and any of the associated software again, tell me what happens after that ..

I have a sandisk CF card reader and it didn't require drivers in Win 2K. Put the card in at any time. What's the model of your card reader?

This is the one I bought: from the newegg.com site:

"ImageMate CompactFlash USB by SanDisk Model SDDR-3101"

neuralfx, I will try your method, and post the results. Thanks for the replys so far!

Well, I put the CD in and un-installed the drivers. Then I shut down the computer, and plugged the reader into a USB port. I then booted up the computer with no card in the reader, and it booted into windows without prompting me to install a driver. I put a card in - and nothing happens. Am I supposed to push a button or something? I don't know what's wrong here! 🙁

ok, it shouldnt really matter, but what i told you was to plug the usb back in while its on, usb is hot swappable ..

Hmm...I wonder what's wrong then...when you put in a CF card, does it instantly pop up as a new drive?

Hope I get this figured out soon, cause I'm going to Paris after Christmas!!
