Probably the stupid question of the day

OK, I'm opening myself up for the flaming here, but.....

I have the opportunity to do up a new rig RIGHT. Top of the line, whatever I want to spend. I was thinking a 20"+ LCD would look great hanging on my wall or on my desk, and I've been looking at the brands to see what's out there.

Now, I game occasionally, but I'm not a huge fan of FPS. I'm more a fan of the sports/RPG/Monkey Island type games.

ANYWAYS, I was wondering, since I have the $2000 to spend, can I use an Apple 20" or 23" studio display on a PC? Is there an ADC/DVI adapter (I see one on the Apple site, but they claim it's an apple only display).

Now, if this ISN'T possible, I've been looking at NEC/Mitsubishi, Samsung, Sony, BenQ (heard they were supposed to be good), Planar, Dell (Samsung rebadges?). Anyone have any suggestions? I'll probably be pairing this to a Radeon 9500Pro, if it makes a difference.

Here's the question then: How does the Apple stack up against the other brands I listed?

Yeah... The way I see it as of now:

Pentium 4 3.0g
1gig Kingston HyperX 3500
Intel 875 board (I don't overclock, or at least, I havent had much success in the past)
Radeon 9500 Pro
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Dual 120gig Baracuda V SATA drives (no raid)
WD Raptor for the OS
Sony DVD-RW (whatever that model # is)
Lite-on 52x CDRW
This case
And the Apple display

There was someone posting either here or on the Ars forums that complained about the Apple displays. Something about PCs and warranty.

Spend a little more or something and buy a 9700np(al least) instead the 9500p. It will make a big difference.

The apple 23" display is a beaut. I'm green with envy.

One that note, I couldn't resist.

Amazing how new PC's are generally better than old ones :)

Because CPU's don't dissapate as much heat when installed in mATX motherboards ;)

Sure that those fans were on? :)

Whats the pixel pitch on the Apple displays? I know most large LCDs like that usually have piss poor pixels pitches, something like .30mm.

Yeah, I think Apple displays have almost no warranty i not purchased with an Apple system--you might want to look into that.

And don't expect to game comfortably at a 20"'s native resolution with only a 9500P. I'd look to a 9700 or 9800, instead.

Ars has had a huge thread on large LCDs going for quite some time. I suggest starting with the last page and working your way backwards to gather some info.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Actually, I already have the Chieftec case, I'm just recycling. I'd love a mini-rig, but hey, I have way too much to toss in there. As for the 9700, I'll have to see how the prices are when I put this thing together (within a few weeks). I figured since I don't do FPS at all, I figured the gaming wouldnt be a problem. I'll have to look into it, I guess......
