Probably Really Easy 98 / W2K Network Q

TrevorK

Senior member
OK, at home I have 2 98 machines, 1 W2K machine. The 98 machines can see each other fine. All the machines can ping each other. However, the 98 machines do NOT see the W2K machine and the W2K machine sees neither of the 98 machines.

I think I followed the steps right, I created a user called "Trevor" on my W2K machine, set the share up, and logged into my 98 machine using "Trevor". I can't see my W2K machine still. I can ping each other, but I can't share files or anything. It must be something simple, help PLEASE?

Thanks
Trevor

Seeing = Network Neighborhood ?

Network Neighborhood = the sweat on the balls of your Neighbor?s dog

Ping is a valid test for IP connectivity; NET USE is a valid method for establishing connectivity.

Go to a DOS prompt on any machine, type:

Net use Z: \\COMPUTERNAME\SHARENAME
Replacing both COMPUTERNAME and SHARENAME with valid equivalents from your network, and potentially replacing Z: with a drive letter of your choice.
(font is a bit squshed, there is a SPACE before an after the Z: )
(also, you can use an IP address in place of a COMPUTERNAME)

It is technically easier to share from the W98 boxes to the W2k box, as usernames don?t come into the equation, but what you wrote seems like a correct basis for sharing from W2k.
