The NCAA way just seems so much more....sporting. Anyone have the stats on what the % is for teams who win the opening toss win the game going into OT in the NFL? Just basing it on anecdotal evidence, it seems like 75% the team who wins the opening toss wins the game overall.

It just seems like luck of the draw for the most part. The NCAA rule where each team gets a chance to score and goes at it until one fails to get into the endzone seams a) more sporting and b) more exciting.

Will we ever see the NFL adopting this way to handle OT?

My guess would be because most of the games are played on Sunday and there usually there is a game that starts immediately afterwards.

The NCAA way is more exciting though. The sudden death NFL way of kicking a 4th and 10 field goal from the 17 to win the game is pretty boring.

I agree to only the fact that both teams get a chance to play offense before a game is decided.

Its just unfair that who ever win the coin toss get a hugh advantage but the NFL can't let both team be on offense caue it would take too damm long so the NCAA's OT is a good solution.

I basically feel the same way but when I said nearly the same thing to my uncle, "All they have to do is get a touch back, drive, say, 60 yards and have a decent kicker and they win." He replied with, "Yeah, and all the other team has to do is stop them." Made me think.. you know, is there really an advantage? The receiving team has to go 60 years, the defense has to prevent them from going 10.. shrug.

I like NFL overtime, but I like Arena Football overtime even more. Arena Football overtime is like NCAA overtime, except that the ball is kicked off... and if both teams score on their possessions, next team to score wins.

i think it's been shown it's close to a 50/50 split on who wins in NFL OT, regardless of who wins the toss. The announcers usually bring up the stat in every OT game. I heard them say it during the Jets/Rams game today.

But i'd still rather see the college version of OT in the NFL.

historically the coin toss winner wins the game around 55% of the time, iirc.

before citing anything good about the ncaa, there is the BCS to trample over..

I was watching the Rams Jets game today and the announcer said that it's roughly 50-50 whether you win the toss or not for NFL OT.
