So, I have not built a new PC since 2007. I just dropped $380 on a new mobo, cpu and memory. My lame questions are as follows:

1. Last case i bought was a massive thermaltake. It houses my current s775 gigabyte mobo. I assumed modern mobos adhere to the screw standards? In other words, the new s1150 ATX should fit in there? right?

2. Bought a new mobo with DVI and VGA headers and the i5 I bought has built in graphics, as I suppose most cpus have, but I will repurpose my 290. Shouldn't have an issue as long as I disable built-in video in the bios right?

Sorry for these seemingly newbie questions, but I have not followed whats new in intel land in nearly 10 years as I have been focusing on higher-end networking and such. I was surprised my 10 year old PSU will still work with this.

FYI, this is what i ordered:

Intel Core i5-4590 Haswell Quad-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 1150 84W BX80646I54590 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600

Refurbished: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming-R LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Pro Gaming with Killer Networking & Sound ...

G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-1333C9Q-16GAO

Oh, one more quick question. What are the chances my 1tb SSD with Win10 already installed and running perfectly, work without clean install? Would really not want to install over 900gb.

In the future I'd suggest that you get a small ssd for the os only and keep your program and data files on a separate drive.

I have 4 1tb ssds. The os drive is mostly steam games so I could easily just move those games to another drive.

You might be able to get the existing install to run but it will be in legacy BIOS mode. I'd do a clean UEFI install personally.

1. Yes, the board should fit.
2. You can disable the onboard graphics, but usually you don't need to.

Some choices there aren't really good. Unless you save money going by a Z87 Motherboard or it has a feature you want, there is no reason to have picked it over a Z97, or a cheaper Motherboard since you don't need a Z87/97 Chipset at all And 4*4 GB 1333 MHz... the standard is 2 * 8 GB 1600/1866 MHz.

IT was budget based decision-making.

Hope that the Z87 board has the bios update for the HW refresh chips, or you might not be able to post.

Can't you change priority for graphics on some m/b? Although the one board I tried that on didn't work but that was a pretty buggy board anyway.

I know that both the Intel igp and the NV video card are enabled on my Z97A board with no problems.

Just a follow up. Installed it all today. Win10 booted right up. Didnt even have to go into the bios. Everything was recognized except the killer NIC and win10 had to be reactivated.

So, now my SSDs are running at their true speeds (old mobo was SATA2) and I am getting on average about 2x the performance I was getting on older system.
