My friend just picked up a Abit KT7A and a 1 GHz 'C' T-Bird. since he is upgrading in steps, he still has a AGP Voodoo 3 3000 and an old sound card (ISA). Anyway, while running Quake 3 and UT, he keeps crashing out (ie resets, not crash to Winblows). He bought a Cooler Master DP5-6H51. My question is: Do these things sucks, or what? He paid $30 bucks for it. I think I've got him convince to try and return it (he went to some random B&M store). Anyway, aside for comments on the Coolermaster, and recommendation that dont involve a Delta &K RPM fan (in other words, fairly quiet)?

He doesnt have any extra fans blowing in his case, but we had the side of it open and out in the middle of the room, and the windows were open with a nice breeze (about 70 degrees F ambient). His temp is indicating @48C at idle... dont know where he is at when he crashes. BTW, he is currently running at 750 since he has PC100 RAM and its a C T-bird, so it defualt multiplier is 7.5. I will be unlocking the CPU on Monday. For the record, I was not consulted in his buying purchases (I'm saying that now b/c he managed to screw it up pretty well). I've got some Artic Silver II. I'm thinking of getting him a Alpha 6035 for his heat sink...
Any recommendations would be appreciated

48C at idle for a 750mhz tbird is really high. It means that at full load this thing goes into the 50C range which is not good at all. He might not have put the heatsink/fan on right.
