Why are you demolishing a toilet with a sledge hammer?? When you can loosen 2 closet bolts & 2 bolts holding the tank to the bowl and can carry it out easily? You beat on stuff that you can't easily carry, like an old cast iron tub.

I usually break the toilet at the junk yard by throwing it from the bed of a pickup truck.
