I think the main thing that keeps my gums healthy is using a very soft tooth brush. I can't even imagine how people use a medium or firm brush, that would make my gums bleed but they are not irritated at all, otherwise. Maybe I just brush further up the gumline than some.

Very true. I think toothbrushes with nylon bristles are the softest. Cleaning the teeth in a circular motion also helps.
