There were a whole bunch of high school/college age kids outside waving signs that said "vote pro-life" and "Jesus saves." Thankfully the demonstration was peaceful.
I think they were trying to get people to vote for Bush (the majority of local leaders in Philadelphia are liberals, and Sen. Arlen Spector, the Republican incumbent, is pro-choice).
I wanted to ask those kids if it was consistent to vote for Bush and be pro-life. After all, President Bush sent this country into preemptive war with Iraq, which has killed thousands of Iraqi civilians, many of them children.
Is the message that killing in our own backyard is not ok, but we don't care who we kill abroad?
