It speculates how much he made based on typical prize money splits between the golfer and caddie, and is only high due to the performance of the golfer.
221 other "pro" players didn't win, so they don't get big payouts.

Is it really surprising?

Looks like it was a bit under 20% of Jordan's winnings, thought they usually got closer to 10%. But for those who think the caddie just carries the clubs, you're way off. You have to be a psychiatrist, mathematician and a walking rule book as well.

Spieth earned 22+ million this year from on-course winnings alone so his caddy allegedly earned 10%, which is the standard. Jordan is pretty tight with his caddy as well so there may have been some additional bonuses.

I think I remember hearing they were roommates in school. Going off the top of my head though....

This. Jordan's caddie probably isn't the worst player ever. The caddie also needs to know what he's doing.

This, a caddie has to be familiar with all of the nuances of his players tendencies, the course they are playing and the rules of the game. Evidently Jordan values his caddy so his compensation is higher than the standard 10% of the players winnings. Heck of a season by that kid, expect more to follow too, what I like about him is how quickly he shakes off a bad hole and "rights the ship" quickly. I'm sure his caddy has a lot to do with that process.
