Pro/Con? Going from 1gb PC2700 to 512mb PC3200 (both dual channel)

Okay I'm thinking about going from 1gb of PC2700 Kingston Hyper-X memory w/ 2.4B @ 3.2ghz to 512mb of Corsair XMS 3200 TwinX w/ 2.6C @ (whatever I get it to). Is this a smart upgrade? I'm losing half the RAM and usually that wouldn't matter at 1gb and 512mb, but it seems like more and more applications are eating up tons of RAM. I do a lot of Photoshop, games (BF1942, CS, Call of Duty, the usual) and occasional 3ds Max. Anyway, if I could afford 1gb of Corsair I would go for that and not ask this question at all, but money's quite an issue here. Anyway, please advise, should I stay here at 1gb PC2700 w/ 2.4B or 512gb PC3200 w/ 2.6C? (Upgrade costs will be about $400).

PC2700 beats swapfile. 🙂
Run taskmanager while you're using the PC for stressful apps - enable the column that shows peak memory usage, and see what it goes up to.

The 3200 should definitely give u more headroom to run your RAM synchronously while you overclock. Odds are you aren't even utilizing the second 512 of your gb
