I notice that macs are cheaper in USA than in Sweden, where I live. I will eventually move to the US this fall. So, I'm just double checking. Does one have to pay any vat or any other fee in addition to the prizes on apple.com? If not, I might wait a while before buying.

You have to pay sales tax. In my state it's 7%.

i.e. $2000 * 1.07 = $2140

There are a couple of states that have no sales tax (Delaware, New Hampshire and Oregon i think) and some that have a very high sales tax (Tennessee is 9.5% last I checked and there a couple of others like parts of New York and California that are close to 9%), however most states I have been to seem to hang around the 5-7% mark.

Nothing like the VAT though, which is nice.

In California you need to tack on a recycling fee of ~$10, depending on the screen size.
