Has anyone got the Dos version of Privateer 2 The Darkening to run under WinXP successfully? I have this version because i bought it when it first came out and didn't bother to get the DELUXE version when it came out (I wish I did now).
Just how different are the DOS version and the Deluxe (win95) versions?
Now the game goes for 40-80 dollars (deluxe version) on ebay.
Just wondering if anyone knew of a way to play this game under WinXP.

IMHO Privateer 2 sucked, compared to 1. I don't even know which version I have. I have the one that came on 3 cds...

I don't think it's possible to get the old DOS version to work in windows XP, but that is just a guess. DOS is easy to get, if you really want to play privateer2 why not make a dual boot with dos and xp?

I liked everything about privateer 2 except the video scenes. I prefered the original privateer using just animations as opposed to the live actors. Pretty much just like Wing Commander 1 & 2 were way better than Wing Commander 3.

A little while ago I felt like checking out some of my old games that I couldn't run in Win2000. So I installed DOS on a Pentium 200 that hadn't been used in lately, went out and bought a $10 gravis joystick and went to town playing some old school privateer. Also played some wing commander, ultima 7, bioforge. For some reason I bought just about every origin game in the early 90's.

well I got Privateer 2 Deluxe version which is supposed to work under windows.

the problem now? The installation program says that my HDs do not have nough space to install, when in fact I have over 70GB free on one and 90GB free on the other.

One way to solve this is to install the game on a Win9X computer and copy the directory over to my XP system.
but thats a pain and I dont have my Win98SE system right now.
Anyone find another way around this?

Hrm. Perhabs you could create a temporary partition of sorts. If you've got the right tools (ie Partition Magic) you should be able to create and remove a small partition in your free space in no time. If you don't have PM, you could use some other tool, but that's prone to be stressful. Alternatively, if you have the RAM, you could even try creating a RAM disk of the necessary size. Maybe there are programs to create virtual partitions? There should be, but I never heard of one.
