Some time ago I was sent several PM's that were pretty threatning and when I mailed a mod I was told that the messages in PM were just that private and they could not read them. Today I found this from a Moderator.
Everyone who PM'd you to request your link to the coupon has won two weeks elsewhere.

Pretty evident that moderators can and do read your Private Messages if they want. I have no problem with this but it seems strange that some they can read and some they cannot.

Some instances where piracy or some act of non-goodness is being used, then they have grounds go read your PM's... otherwise, they have no real reason to read them/care.

When I read that I assumed they got the info on PM's from the thread itself. Not by reading PM's but by comments like
"Chucho,
Thank you for the pm

Read my post!!!!!! Is banning for cupons as important as life threats? I have no doubt that the PM's can be read. On my board that is on my own server the messages can be read but only by a administrator not a moderator. If they will not read PM for threats and do for cupons something wrong in the decision process, although I might say there might be a whole bunch of new moderators now that were not here when the incident happend to me.

You may be entirely correct that is good thinking on your part. But if this is the case there may have been a bunch of others that did PM but did not post about it. They were the smart ones.
