Private Folders

Expendable

Junior Member
I had a friend that managed to get a couple of viruses that crashed their OS (Win XP). I plugged their hard drive into my computer, scanned for and deleted all of the virus files, but I am unable to access their documents because they enabled the "private folders" settings on their documents. I have tried booting up the hard drive on their computer, but the OS is completely crashed...I can't even get to safe mode...I also tried accessing the files through Knoppix, but I still can't access the files. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks

If you can right click the folder/files, properties, security, advanced.
Take ownership - account name or group.
apply

If you havent got the security tab under properties, then you will have to disable 'simple file sharing'.
To do this:
Windows Explorer
Tools
Folder Options
View
At the bottom, or thereabouts is a ticked box - Use simple file sharing. Untick.
