What privacy rights do you think that kids under 18 should have, if any?

I basically agree with that. The parents should offer privacy to their children when appropriate. It's good for self-esteem and not hating your life/parents, but it's nice that parents can excercise discretion and root through a closet now and again 🙂

I basically agree with that. The parents should offer privacy to their children when appropriate. It's good for self-esteem and not hating your life/parents, but it's nice that parents can excercise discretion and root through a closet now and again 🙂

Legally, the only sense of privacy I think there should be is in the realm of abortions. I don't want to get P&N, but if a girl wants to have one it is her right, it is her body. Now, maybe there could be something like, if you are under 13 or something, but 17 yr old girls should be able to get them w. out their parents.

In the general sense, it's good for parents to give their kids privacy if they want to raise them right. But legally, no.

agreed. Under the roof = they OWN you regardless of your age IMO. If you don't like the invasion of privacy, get off ur @$$, get a job, and move out-

Privacy is earned, as is trust.

When VeggieFrog was a minor, I gave a all the privacy I would like to have had. But I made it clear...My house was NOT a democracy. I ruled with complete impunity. If I felt for one second that any of the 'rights' were being abused, they would be pulled immediately.

I think it is insane that people think that children should have the same rights and freedoms as their parents.

The hell is, privacy battles between kids and parents generally crop up when a kid is doing something they shouldn't be doing.
Internet porn, hiding the weed, smoking, drinking, stealing things, and good stuff like that.
Kids think that they should have the privacy to explore illegal and dangerous things because they know what's best for them. They think they should be able to hide their cigarettes in their dresser without being worried that their mother will root through the dresser and find them.
It's bullshit.
If a kid is doing nothing wrong, then there is no need for privacy. With respect comes courtesy. I always knock before entering my kid's rooms because they have my trust and they deserve my courtesy.
I don't root through their personal effects.
If I ever have a reason to believe they are doing something they shouldn't, I'll come down on them like the FBI. Privacy goes out the window.

Kids' privacy from parents is one thing, but the government has no excuse to be mucking around in our personal lives. I have yet to see one valid reason why the government should be allowed to intrude more than they do already...

On privacy and teens (I am one myself): Yes, I know we have no "right" to privacy... But how many grown men in the audience had porn (and had to hide it) when they were kids? Yeah, thought so. How many of you got into arguments with your parents over what music you listened to (I hope your parents were more enlightened than mine :roll: ).

My parents are very intrusive about music (they got mad at me a few years ago for listening to More Than a Feeling!). There is an age where kids do not understand logic, and in the end we would just have to do it "because I say so." However, when we reach an older age, most of us can tell the difference between "don't do it because it's bad for you" and "don't do it because I don't like it." Making sure by whatever appropriate means that your kids grow up to be good law abiding citizens is one thing, while hovering over their shoulder every freakin second to make sure they don't have preferences that you don't care for is just ridiculous! :|
