My mother was talking with my younger sisters, friend's father, and he told her about some program called "I know what you did and i'm gonna tell" Which tracks everything you do/did? So she wants to install it on my sister's computer, and I know she is going to do something stupid, like try to install it on mine. There is no way in HELL I want anything of that sort to ever grace my HD, how do I prevent anything like that from being installed without my knowledge, and better yet, how can I just delete the files it is supposed to scan. This is BOGUS.

If you're a minor living with your parents, they not only have the right to spy on you, they have a legal and ethical responsibility to do so.

pr0n is for grown-ups ;)

The other option is to not do "stuff" that you know requires "sneaking" behind your parent's back. If you aren't doing anything they would object to, you have nothing to worry about. It's not privacy invasion until you are a legal adult living in your own home.

Some clarification, it's MY computer, there's nothing to hide on it, I just don't want any sneaky program running around on it w/o my knowledge.

Your parents could still be legally responsible if, for example, your are using your computer to break the law. They could be both legally and ethically responsible if you're using it to help plan the next Columbine. And they need to know to have you institutionalized or at least medicated if you're collecting mallard snuff pr0n ;) .

It's your computer, that's nice. It's using your parents electricity and your parent's phone line or cable plug for internet (unless you help with the bills). And it's still their house. When I lived at home it was my parent's rules. Period. If I didn't like it, there were two ways out. The front door and the back door. If your worry is some software stealing precious CPU resources, your CPU can more than handle it, and it's not sneaky if you know its there. Seting up users is one way. Of course if mom says "I'm installing this." user acounts won't really help. And your statements seem contradictory. First post you wanted to know how to delete files it scans, later you say you have nothing to hide. Then what is there to delete? And yeah, stay away from the mallard pr0n ;)

Gee guys, let's see, would you EVER, and I mean EVER install a program called I know what you did and I'm gonna tell! It sounds exactly like those "your privacy is compromised!" popups. NONE of which I would ever trust to not gather personal info - WHILE it tracks everything you do.

I would suggest that you look around yourself for a similar program that perhaps has a good online reputation already & just tell your parents 1/2 the software out there is garbage that does stuff beyond what it describes & ask them to at least use the one you determine is more responsable, in terms of privacy, etc. That way you can both be happy. They still get to monitor, but you don't have to deal with a POS software.

edit: you could look here

edit 2: you may just want to point your parents here

Ah, but you're still a minor living in your parents' domain. Therefore whatever is there also belongs to them ;)

I may not show on the process list, but some nasty things (viruys/spy ware, etc) can piggyback onto an existing legit application that is run.
It can just spin off another thread (not a process) to do what ever is desired by the writer. Never shows up.

I have such a monster on a system here at work that has affected the IE browser. It highlights certain words and if the word is clicked, will send you off to a web site.
also, plays around with some banner ads.

Spybot & Ad-aware can not find it.
When I log on to another system, the problem does not happen, so it is locked onto the physcial unit.
Netscape does not have the issue.
