Ok, OT'ers, come up with ideas for a prison/prison system to replace the current problems of overcrowding and cost to taxpayers (no, this isn't my homework, I was watching an interesting history channel show).
My idea:
Build a huge open space (many square miles wide) a few thousand feet under the surface. All new inmates are placed on one side of this space, and provided with 1 gun (no ammo). The exit is directly opposite from the entrance (but a few miles away). No food will be supplied. In the center of this arena, one solitary ammo vending machine will exist. Inmates can only leave via the exit if they have been in the prison for at least one year, those who escape are assigned to the marines for a few years.
How it works:
a) Since there's no food available, the people kill each others (with guns, or normal fighting)
b) The weaker die, those with better survival instincts survive and join the army.
