2.2GHz, 1Gig Ram, XP, HP 612c Printer(hooked up directly to pc).

Whenever I print a document or anything (low quality setting) it brings my computer to a hault, using 100% cpu usage. The computer does not crash, but it slows down substantially. Is there some setting I can change to sort of spool the print job or something?

Thanks

What program are you printing from?

Start \ settings \ printers and faxes\ right click on your printer \ properties \ advanced tab \ Select the first option regarding spooling, then try the first and second suboptions under that.

Get a print server.

This same thing happened to me with any printer I hooked up to any one of my machines. On my network, my main box used to have the printer hooked up to it and if the GF sent a print job, it slowed my box way down.

So I just took an old rig, slapped some big HDDs in it and made it a print and file server. Now the print jobs get sent through it and I don't get lagged and fragged in the middle of my games anymore. :) PLUS, I have a place to back up all my machines.

Thats what we did, only we did it because we bought a new computer for me so we ended up having one extra computer, which was one of our oldest.

Yesterday we got a print server in the mail, its really small compared to the computer and works great.
