Printing problems with Canon MP130

I just purchased a brand new Canon MP130 all-in-one printer, but after setting it up, it won't print anything. It acts like it is printing, but nothing shows up on the paper. I know I installed the print cartridges correctly, and everything else seems to be working on the printer (meaning it will scan pictures), but for some reason, nothing will show up on the page.

It almost seems like the cartridges that came with it were bad. I lightly touched the black cartridge, and it appears to have ink in it.

Did I get a lemon?? I appreciate all suggestions.

Check the FAQ on Canon's web site. I'm pretty sure that is covered there. Did you follow the setup poster's instructions exactly - the order of steps IS important? You may have to power down, disconnect the printer, reboot and uninstall driver and then start over if you didn't.
. Was the print head in a separate sealed package when you received it? Did you prime the print head? Usually priming is done with one or more of the "deep cleaning" cycles. Because there is no ink in the head when you get it from the factory. Printing without priming can burn out nozzles.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did follow the instruction exactly. I finally got the black ink to start working by doing the deep cleaning (Head Refreshing). I still can't get the color to work right. it all comes out pink. I ordered some new ink cartridges and hopefully they will help things out.

Is there anything I can do to the color ink cartridge to get all the colors working?

Check the FAQ and/or call tech support - Canon's TSRs are usually pretty good.

I agree with the tech support thing--its should be under warranty---but quick question--did you remove the tape covering the air vent?

Check my post on the nearby HP thread. May be in your USB wiring. Have you checked Canon's FAQ pages yet? If not, get with the program! He helps those who help themselves...

Sorry, not exactly sure on air vent location on BCI-24 cartridges. But really sounds like your cartridges are not feeding right. If you have a pinkish cast, chances are that means a lack of blue. Since you located the ink outlet hole on the black cartridge, it will be in a similar place on your tricolor cartridge. With one outlet per color.--make sure each will blot ink onto a tissue. The advertised shelf life of a virgin OEM Canon cartridge is two years--its possible yours are older than that.

One trick on reviving a dead cartridge is to place in a sealed plastic bag---immerce in very warm water for a minute or so and then check to see if ink blots onto the paper.

Not sure if Zepper is correct in stating a new printhead needs priming--because I have had both virgin printheads on the Canon printers I own come alive when I said print---can't remember if it did a cleaning cycle before or not--but the first sheet output and all sheets after that printed excellent.

But if your printer is still under warranty---you state its brand new--then everything you do should be under Canon tech support supervision.
