I just set up a new computer for my grandfather. It's completely up-to-date hardware with WinXP, but his peripherals are all old! His scanner still uses serial, and his printer uses parallel. Luckily his new motherboard has a serial, and luckily I had a parallel -> USB adapter.
I plugged it in and the printer installed without a hitch. The only problem is when I try to print something that's NOT a text file with 2-3 lines of text. It will print about 1/4th of the document and then say "This document has failed to print" without much other information. I checked to see if bidirectional printing was turned on, but it's turned off and the checkbox is greyed out. I also tried changing the port from USB to an LPT port, but then I couldn't get it to print at all (but I might have been setting it up incorrectly).
Any ideas? Thanks!
