Printing problem w/ USB to Parallel Cable Adaptor

I just purchased a Dell 700m laptop with XP Home. I have connected it to my NEC Superscript 870 laser printer using a Hawking Technology USB to Parallel Cable Adaptor as the printer does not have an USB input and the laptop lacks a parallel port. Printerdriver installation was without any problem but I am unable to print.

The smae printer when connected to another Dell machine running XP with the normal parallel port cable works just fine.

What could I try to troubleshoot?
