Printing in IE11 Stops the Print Spooler Service

If I print in IE11 the Windows 7 Print Spooler service stops. This problem doesn't occur if I print a test page or print from Firefox or other applications such as Excel or Adobe PDF Reader. I tried deleting all of the printers and printer drivers and resetting IE11 settings. Any ideas?

Because you are printing from Internet Explorer please disabled ANY and all ADDONS.

Next update your adobe PDF reader to the latest version. If you are not sure then uninstall adobe reader and reinstall from the web and not from an old installer you had laying around handy.

Ok now that is done use: http://www.herdprotect.com/downloads.aspx Install it and scan your pc and remove any bad stuff it finds.

Back in the day I have seen corrupted addons messing with Internet Explorer. Fragmentation slowing printing to a crawl so bad that the printer would start printing but only after 30 minutes of hitting the button.

Other issues could be out of date print drivers. Visit the printer site depending on your printer and remove the old printer and the software that came with it.

After the above is done then reboot and try again.

Things I do at work to get people up and running again that you can use this as a guide to get up and running as fast as possible.

Just maybe the print driver they released is buggy so lets say your printer is an HP 64858 printer Ok remove the 64858 driver and install a printer driver for 64000 The tip here is the keep the numerical series the same for better luck.

HP now has UNIFIED PRINT DRIVERS and it does not always work as they like it as much as they boast about it.

If you are using PCL6 drivers then use PCL5 series instead.

I have installed IE11 on a couple machines and ran into separate issues here and there with both. I would suggest rolling back to IE10 and see if you encounter the same issue.

Interesting. Are we on a specific site for this? As inachu mentioned, what ad-ins are enabled?

If push comes to shove you can totally disable Internet Explorer from Programs and features and click on "TURN Windows Features on or off.

Once The windows feature of IE has been unchecked then reboot. After reboot then recheck to enable IE then try printing again.

The problem happens printing any site. When I click Print, IE says there aren't any printers. That's because the Print Spool service has just stopped.

All add-ins are disabled.

I had an old xp machine that had spooler service stop but only because the drive was over 30% fragmented. I highly doubt your pc is like that with todays modern OS

OP, what printer are you using? Have you tried updating the print driver? Are there any other printers installed (or have there been)?

I bet it's one of those little HP Laserjets...right? If so, there is an old Vista driver that ignores some advanced functions when printing from Adobe PDF or IE.

What model is your printer?

The printer is an HP LaserJet 5550n connected by USB. The machine has had other printers installed in the past. I tried deleting all of the old printer drivers. I also re-downloaded the PCL6 drivers for the 5550n and reinstalled the current printer.

A couple things I have seen before in the Internet Options section:

1. Some anomalous entries in the Connections section.
2. In the Advanced section, you can try the Reset button under Reset Internet Explorer settings.

You can always try HP's universal driver.

Try a different USB port and or USB cord. Instead of plugging it in the back try just for testing purposes try printing with it plugged in the front if you have any spare usb slots there. Also to note.... It is plugged into a blue USB slot? If so keep it plugged into a black color usb slot first. Blue is USB 3.0 and you jut might not have the USB 3.0 drivers.

Also in control panel, Admintool, services. Could you please print screen and post a picture here of your services?

Just want to know what is disabled and so-forth.

inachu, I'd also like to add that the problem happens before I tell IE to print to any particular printer. It happens as soon as I click Print. I should be getting the Print window that allows me to pick the printer. Instead IE says I have no printers installed. If I check Services I see that the Printer Spooler service has stopped.

ketchup79, that guide has a step in which it says to delete all of the print jobs under windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS. When I try to go under the Printers folder Windows Explorer says I don't have permissions to access this folder.

What type of Windows account do you have? With an administrator-level account, you will get the warning, but should be able to continue through it.

When weird stuff happens and does not follow a precise way to repair a pc and those fixes do not take no matter the inroads taken then the best possibility would be you have an infection on your pc preventing you to do certain things.

Run checkdisk chkdsk c: /f and remove all your temp files and such and reattempt the various good solutions mentioned above.

mikeymikec no. Nothing odd in the Event Logs. I just get an event saying the Print Spool service unexpectedly stopped.
