Printing from Puppy Linux to Windows - please help

I installed the UNIX print service on the Windows box. I installed Samba on the Puppy. I configured CUPS to use "lpd://192.168.2.87/lj2200" as the printer.

The Comodo firewall log on the Windows box shows that there is a TCP connection active to port 515 (which I opened). The Puppy box says that it is attempting to connect to the printer, then "unable to connect to printer ... timed out".

Is there any way to diagnose this? I'm a Linux newbie....

Is there no printer wizard or anything in Puppy?

I set up a network printer under Ubuntu but there was a wizard where I could choose a printer off a list so that it knew which driver to use.

It sounds like you have not told puppy the make/model of the printer.

There is a CUPS wizard, and I did tell puppy the specific model (LJ2200).

According to the Windows system firewall program, a few hundreds of bytes did arrive over the TCP connection to port 515. The printer's activity LED does not show any traffic, and as stated the puppy box says it cannot connect to the printer.
