printing checks... needs magnetic ink?? help

trying to figure out what is necessary to print your own checks... but it seems this ability is pretty rare/expensive. HP told me that you need printers that can do magnetic ink to be able to print checks, and that they only have ONE printer (a black and white laser printer) that can do it (i suppose they mean one retail normal people printer) and it costs $750.

is all this true and does anyone know of the best solution for printing checks for those who dont want to spend a lot?

i dont think many ppl print checks. most places just buy checks, and prints the "payee", "date", "amount" and stuff.

Routing code, account number, and check number (bottom) all need to be printed with a MICR ink. You can get a standart Lexmark laser printer, and the MICR cartridge, but I would assume that it would be cheaper to just buy your checks.

mmm ive never used special ink and print my own checks all the time

LOL! That means your bank most likely processes all of your checks by hand. As long as they don't care, don't worry about it, though.

interesting...i doubt that they do, since all my checks get scanned and I can look at them online after they were processed...oh well...i'm not worried about it
