I need to be able to print files (.doc files mainly) under Linux on a HP LaserJet 4 printer. Can I use some program to edit and print .doc files under Linux? I also want to copy cds, how can this be done.
I'm a complete Linux newbie so please help me guys.

1. What version of Linux do I need (most user friendly, I only need to print and burn cds)
2. What software for edit/print .doc files (printer HP LaserJet 4)
3. What software for cd burning (Teac 40x CDR)
4. Where can I find drivers?

Specs of my print/burn server:
MB VIA MVP3
AMD K6-2 400Mhz
Ram 64MB PC133
HDD 10GB
Voodoo Banshee 16MB
CDR Teac 40x
Sound card Yamaha PCI
Printer HP LaserJet 4P

Quick answers,

1) Redhat or Mandrake
2) OpenOffice
3) under GNOME, use gtoaster - under KDE, I don't know, but there must be something equivalent
4) HP's are generally well supported. Check out Foomatic or gimp-print, and use cups as your print daemon.

But I think you might want to calm yourself a bit first - a complete Linux newbie will not be able to simply slam all this together in a night.

Good Luck.
