is it just me, or are printers built like crap these days? i love my laserjet 6p to death. it's an iron horse and never let's me down. i see ppl at work get new printers and have nothing but problems. xerox personal laser printers are a biggest pieces of turd IMHO. the new hp's r still ok... but the old hp's.... like a rock (heavy like one too).

i saw a deal on a dell multifunction laser printer on fatwall3t and was tempted, but i didn't wanna get stuck with an oversized paperweight after 12 months and one day (comes with a one year warranty).

Yup, new ones are crap.

The weight of the old ones was due to metal frames. Old and new both use primarily nylon gears (quiet), but newer ones use mostly plastic for the gear assemblies.

Any more printers are essentially disposable, especially in the consumer segment. Even $3000+ printers use plastic frames & are constructed nearly entirely of plastic.

i seems like printers these days are built to be replaced... not fixed. if my laserjet 6p dies... i'm on ebay looking for parts 😛 either that or another laserjet 6p 😛
