printers sudden death?

rise

Diamond Member
looks like the thing just died out of the blue. was working fine, then kaput. checked and reseated the connections, checked toner, etc. it seems to load things into queu and then gives an error, no other explanation, just printer error. it is obviously listed when i open the file, print, it shows there, just won't print anymore. no changes to the system, drivers show ok (HP 812c) and all.

any suggestions or is it just dead?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the drivers for the printer? How about removing it from the device manager and/or printer list and then adding it again? How long have you had the printer?

Keep in mind, before you get too much into trying to get this one back up and running, you can get a brand new, EXCELLENT printer for under $100 these days. That's one that will print out photographs like they came from a lab (better than most labs in fact) and will last.

thats my thought too ab out just getting a new one. perhaps i'm not trying hard enuff to fix the damn thing, lol.

seriously tho, yeah i checked the device manager and the drivers, installed and re-installed. the printer has to be probably 5 years old, i don't use it much but the damn cart's cost me 30 black and 30-35 color. i'm thinking its just time to put it down. its an old HP 812, i just kinda thought it would start making noises or something before just quitting.

i'm thinking of the pixma 4000, appears to be decent for just text and great on pics but so-so on graphics. still trying to decide i guess. especially with the pixma 3000 about 7 cheaper.

this is odd, i think....

i had been trouble shooting this thing thru "printers/faxes" in the control panel of xp home sp2. i just checked the device manager and its not listed there. i thought it would show there as well. its listed every where else and i notice looking more closely at the printer in "printers and faxes" in the control panel, the printer is listed and thwe status is ready but the word "ready" is kinda grayed out???

i don't know, could there be some problem with the cable? i connected and reconnected a few times and have reinstalled the drivers and the printer itself thru the hardware wizard.

any ideas? i might have to stick with this a little longer as i think i'll get a new lcd first if i can.
