Hey guys,

First i'd like to say hello everybody, as i'm new to the forums. Not to say that i haven't been reading this site before, but this is my first time on the forums.

Well my old Epson color 777 has been giving me problems lately, and frankly, its about time to replace it anyway. So i'm looking for a new printer. Mostly i print stuff for school, though now and then i like to print a picture of my digital camera. So the Pixma 3000 and Epson C86 seem to be in my price and feature range. Of course quality is important, while speed is nice, but i'd gladly give it up for better quality. What i do care about however is ink consumption. I found myself replacing ink cartages some 4 times a year, and refilling isn't a whole lot of fun. So its important it doesn't consume much ink, and that refillable ink (or non manufacturer ink) is available for a good price. Other than that, i don't care much about bells and whistles.

So share away,

Vlad

Canon, hands down. Ink is inexpensive and the printers are generally reliable.

. Arrr, welcome aboard me hearty...
. I second Canon - Epsons clog too easily and are hard to clean when they do clog. And ink for the Canon is very inexpensive. If print head wears out, it's easy and not too expensive to replace, not so with the Epson (requires a trip to the shop as consumers can't even buy the head separately). I own an iP3000 myself and I'm very impressed. See my review here: http://www.techimo.com/reviews/ .

I am in the Market for a printer, and would like it to have replacable heads. I can find no evidence that the PIXMA iP3000 has a replaceable print head. Where do you get them? I have been google searching for an hour.

If you look at the box contents shown HERE you will see item number 2
  • PIXMA iP3000 Print Head

Replacements are purchased directly from Canon.

Canons still have replaceable print heads; they're not available as retail items, but as spare parts. Cost is reasonable (read: considerably less than a new printer) if you shop around a bit.
