Printers for Vista

I would like to buy a multi-function photo ink jet printer that will work under Vista. Anyone know the best way to determine what will work and what will not work?

Ask---always ask before you buy---responsible printer manufacters will write drivers for their legacy printers---and some of these drivers are not yet written yet for vista---so I wonder if Canon will write an XP driver for my MP730.

But once a legacy printer gets to a certain age--many printer manufacters don't bother. But all printer manufacters do maintain websites---so you can check to see if Vista drivers are available yet--or e-mail and ask if they will become available.

Hey LL,
Doesn't the v.500a suite work for that?

Hey OP,
As LL said most printer mfr's already have a Vista policy on their web sites. Canon's has no specifics just a nebulous statement that all current models will be supported with drivers and "many" legacy models too but maybe later.

Find a canon printer you want to buy like the MP600 and then go to Canon's site and see if their is a download for vista, which there is for Vista32 and Vista64.

All the newer Canons are supported.

In the case of my Mp730 and I believe most other multifuntional, to some extent drivers are
not even needed as most of the multifuntional stuff is done by the printer with no PC even needed.
So I can copy, scan, and fax with my computer not even turned on.---and even do photo's from memory cards.
