Printer Won't Install in XP Pro

I'm trying to install an HP DeskJet 952C via USB. It should be a breeze. It's a late model printer and XP probably has the needed drivers preinstalled. But, when I turn on the printer, after the "New Hardware Found" window appears, I receive a message that says unable to continue because the RPC service is not working.
Any ideas what this is about? Thank you.

Did you try to install the USB plug into another port? That might change something. I have a 960c and it had the right driver. Was your XP load in flawed at all?

Thanks. I just got it to install and it seems fine. However, I can't find the HP Toolbox which is auto installed with their latest driver, version 4.3 Any ideas on that?

Why do you need the toolbox? I have that printer and every possible option I would want is in the printer properties when I click print.

I second that, any non-necessary software (especially HP) that you do not really need you should not install. The driver that XP put in does everything it needs to.

Most definitely. I'm completely anal about stuff that uses my resources that I don't need. I make sure everything is disabled at startup. If I want it, I'll start it myself. I paid for my components, so I'm going to get all the performance I can out of them.
