Printer toner: Differs from each brand?

I have a Samsung 1740 laser printer, and about 2 months ago I bought a 4 pack of refill toner for it.

This past weekend I bought my mom a Brother HL2040 laser printer, and she ended up not needing it. However, it was cheap enough that I'm considering keeping it and giving mine to my sister (mine is 3 years old).

Would the toner I bought be compatible with the Brother, or would I have to get a different one if I keep it? The toner I have is like a black powderish substance.

Isn't all toner a black powderish substance? (color toner excluded, of course)

😕

Toner comes as a cartridge for MOST printers, but there are some that you refill yourself. If both printers allow refills, you are probably fine.

Regardless, wrong forum.

Oops, sorry.

I googled it though, so yeah it's all the same. Feel free to do what you want with this thread moderator.
