Printer suggestions...

Friend emailed me, his son just started at West Point, and needs a printer.

Space is at a premium, reliability is a big big factor, too.

Suggestions?

picked up a couple HP LaserJet 1000's for my bro and sis for college from deals on this site and others They seem to work real nice if you just need B&W. Don't know how much your friend prints but I have had my HP Laserjet 6l for 5 years now and still have yet to replace the cartridge. And I printed out plenty of papers in 4 of those years at college.

the 1000 might be a little bulky though than what you're looking for.

well since he is in college i would get a laserprinter. i have a nice samsung laserprinter that is not to large.

If all he printed was text, laser would be the way to go,...does he need color??

Personal lasers are alright, but I would not recommend a samsung/lexmark. Their toner cartridges are tiny compared to the other companies, but they are fairly reliable.

Inkjet, I like the HP deskjet 5550, or the smaller canon models with the seperate ink tanks for each color. Also, you might consider the HP PSC1210. Its an All-in-one, and its the smallest one out there, I believe.

Staples has a few Brother Multifunction laser machines that look good if space is at a premium and he needs a fax, scanner, copier.

Canon i850 is a very nice printer. It was ranked #1 by PC world this year.

The Epson C82 is $59 after rebates at staples this week.
