hi,

i have redhat 6.1 installed on my linux machine and i have a printer hooked up and working. The problem is that i want to share that printer with the rest of my network and i cant seem to get it right. The printer works fine in linux ( in Xwindows, how do i test it at the command prompt? ). I have been fooling around with the settings in my smb.conf to no avail. I did get it to ask me for a password once, but i dont want the printer password protected at all. just sharing. thanks

You must use Samba to do file and print sharing.

A great on-line refernce is this

Using Samba

Pay attention to the fact that windows uses encrypted passwords (so there are Adjustments to be made in the Samba config and password files) and that the Windows computers have to log on as a user with a password to connect to the linux box. (I used UITweak to set up the windows computers to automatically log in when they boot)

Good luck
