printer setup in Simply Mepis Linux

I am trying to setup an HP Laserjet 2100 printer in a CD version of Simply Mephis linux.

I can not get the test page (or anything else to print).

I have tried all of the listed print drivers and I get NO results.

Do I have to actually install this Linux O/S to my drive in order to get the printer to function ?

Thanks.

It should work with the generic Postscript driver. No special driver should be necessary for basic printing, though you might be able to find a PPD to enable some printer-specific options.

Did you choose the right place the printer is located (like the parallel port, usb #1, etc)?

Yes, it is a parallel port printer. It works fine in Win2000 installation.

Thanks.
