i would like to get a printer server, but im using a windows pc, and my gf is using a mac.

is it possible to install both windows and mac drivers.

hopefully i put this in the right section.

Do you know if the printer you have currently has Mac drivers? If so when you get the print server you would just install it as an IP printer I think for both Windows and the Mac. Not sure how that works on a Mac though (been awhile since I've really used one).

im not sure on the model

alright thnx,i might just have it run on mac drivers, i dont print often enough for it to matter, the mac user is a college student

Network printer does not have Software installed on the printer.

You can install the printer using Windows, and then any computer with any OS that can connect to the Network and has on it the printer drivers for the specific OS can use the printer.

Thanks for clearing that up, I meant to post back with that.

Print servers like an HP Jetdirect do not have drivers on the cards themselves. They use the print driver on the PC and send the data via one of the couple of IP printer protocols out there. The thing to watch for is networked versions of the all in one printers. Some of those do have special windows drivers that connect to the print server in a way that is not standard. If that software is not available for the Mac it still might be able to print to it but be unable to use the scanner and fax.

I have an HP4050 with a jetdirect in it that both my Mac and PC print to. It works because there are drivers for both available. One thing is for certain though, once you go network print you won't want to go back... Sharing windows printers / etc is harder and less stable in my opinion.

Edit: In a home network I mean.
