printer problems

I have a Canon 550i printer. It does not print black (colors work fine). I've tried deep cleaning and still nothing. Even tried a new cartridge and nothing. How does one going about physically cleaning the print head?

Call Canon support. They will have you run through a couple of deep cleanings. When that doesn't work they will send you a new printhead if you yell loud enough. Other than that they will refer you to a repair center.

It's not electrically dead, else the printer would complain.

If you tried without ink for too long, the ink path in the head has dried up and maybe clogged. Take all ink cartridges out, remove the print head from the printer (flick the large grey lever), and let the print head soak on a wet paper towel for a while.

I've been known to take out the printhead and run high velocity tap water through it in both directions until the heads are completely clean. No ink left coming through. I then blow dry the printhead completely dry with high pressure air until it's completely dry. Don't want any water left under the circuit board connection that would short anything out.

This has cleared all clogs so far.
