I just installed my HP 890c in WinXP Pro, and whenever the computer boots into windows or the driver is loaded, the printer continues to printer random characters for page after page after page. It won't print anything but these characters. I tried using a new printer driver (the 870cse) and a different cable, but it just continues to print these characters. Any ideas?

svan for viruses? you talked to hp tech support yet? I haven't ever heard of anything like this before, the only real thing I could think of you already did (install new drivers)

I've had this problem with an old Epson printer where if you're in the middle of printing and you abruptly turn the printer off, it will go on for pages and pages of printing garbled characters on the first couple of lines of every page. That's just an idea, but since you said that you just installed the printer, I don't think that's your problem. Try unplugging it from your computer and the wall outlet and letting it sit for a few minutes. Then reinstall it and make sure that you have the right driver for your printer. It could be that a wrong driver is causing all these garbled characters. Hope this helps.

what you're getting is a printer driver conflict.

so you have hp890c?
uninstall the printer
download the driver from hp website that's for this

hp driver webpage

follow the instructions on that page...
and if that doesn't work...

i'm going to be honest and frank with you on this....
you need a new printer, my friend.

dont' waste any more time & money on that printer.

for $50 or less... you can grab yourself a decent usb printer.
it's not worth struggling with an inkjet that only does 1 ppm color.
