Hi,

My printer is a HP Deskjet 810c. I'm running XP Home SP 2.

Even before The document actually starts printer, I get the "Document failed to print" bubble.

I've tried everything, including uninstalling/reinstalling new drivers, adding a new printer, following this advice:

http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

Could it be my USB cable?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Could be, might be dodgy printer as well.
Look in your event viewer and see if there are any error codes/descriptions.

Control panel
administrative tools
event viewer.

If you want a hand with that, post back with full details of 'X' relating to the problem -
Source
ID
full text description (can't cut and paste I'm afraid)

whoops..sorry about that.

montag,

i have "X"'s everywhere! There are 2 kinds and they occured consistantly throughout the times where i tried to fix my printer.

One is:

Source: DCOM
Event ID: 10010
Description: The server {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The other one is:

Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7024
Descr: The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with service-specific error 2147942402 (0x80070002).
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp

Thanks.

Can you upgrade your printer driver and tools - or uninstall the HP toolbox proggy.

Sorry - in a bit of a hurry so can't look into it fully at the moment - I'll be back in about 5 or 6 hours

hey montag,

i don't have the HP toolbox proggy. when i added the printer, the only thing that was installed was the driver itself, which is included in windows xp.

thanks for continuing to help me!

OK, here goes.......
did a little research and this may or may not fix the problem ---

Go into control panel
admin tools
services
disable 'Background Intelligent Transfer'.

That will prob stop some of the error -

Delete the following folder:
C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\microsoft\network\downloader

When you reboot - that folder will recreate itself.
Re-enable Background Intelligent Transfer in Services (auto)
See if that does it.

Also, you might want to disable spooling in your printer settings if the above doesn't work.

MONTAG!!! IT WORKED!!

first i disabled BIT (with restart) and i still got the X's. then i disabled print spooler and then disabled BIT (with restart) and i didn't get the X's.

then i added a printer and installed the driver and it printed a test page just fine.

oh btw, i managed to get a different USB cable (and used it for the test page) so i hope it's NOT the cable d=

Wow - a dodgy usb cable,
I used to recommend a cable change first thing but stopped doing that as Belkin and co. made lots of money from my dodgy advice ..... and this is the first time I ever see a broken usb cable.

Cheers for the heads up.

Background Intelligent Transfer sys, well, does what it says on the tin - so you don't have to wait around for file ops to complete before doing something else.

Print Spooler - works pretty much the same way, just with info going to your printer.
Seems da cable screwing wid ya.
