See if there is a driver update for the scanner in Win 10.

You could try out Linux. That support lots of older printer/scanners that will no longer work in Windows 10.

First it helps to know the Make and Model of your Printer .. Second, you can use the Windows 10 Program Compatability checker to test if the program will run properly when in Windows 7 mode. You may need the Win 7 drivers for it

corkyg,
nice to hear from you

yes, that's what I am trying to do right now. last night was forced to unplug windows updates (in the middle of updating) and have to start again. my current step
in the process is to get drivers, so you are right on track. your expert quick about this stuff (its taken me nearly a week just to get this far!!!!!!!)

QUESTION
can windows update (stopped in the middle of updating) cause corruption?
could this type of corruption to a system cause hardware or software to not function? (even if they had functioned before the "attempted update")

whm1974, howdy!

linux? that's pretty sticky there. I don't know how to program DOS in the linux language. tiny bit of a set back in using this option.
I am running puppy. but just out of curiousity, what "linux" were you saying had these drivers and or would work in windows 10 (ubuntu)?

hi bruceb,
how is you?
o_O
it is a CANNON MAXIFY MB2320
I looked for the "Windows 10 Program Compatability checker", but couldn't find it.
how do you find the Windows 10 Program Compatability checker?

when you say, "Windows 7 mode", you are talking about right clicking "compatibility">selecting "properties">then selecting run program as windows95, windows98
windows22,000,000,000, windows7, windows8?

just to clarify, you are saying that i will need "Win 7 drivers" to use the "Windows 10 Program Compatability"?

Info is here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15078/windows-make-older-programs-compatible

Make older programs compatible with this version of Win

Most programs created for earlier versions of Windows will work in this version of Windows, but some older pgrams might run poorly or not at all. Running the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter should automatically detect and fix some of the most common issues. If that doesn’t work, try changing the settings manually. The following table should help you figure out which setting to adjust.

  1. Enter the name of the program in the search box on the taskbar, press and hold (or right-click) the search result, and then select Open file location.
  2. Press and hold (or right-click) the program, select Properties, and then select the Compatibility tab.
    • First, select Run compatibility troubleshooter to run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter. (Note that DPI scaling issues won’t be resolved with the troubleshooter, so refer to the table below for other options.)
    • If you’re still experiencing compatibility problems, adjust one or more of the following settings and select OK when you’re done.

Setting
Description
Compatibility mode
Runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows. Try this setting if you know the program is designed for (or worked with) a specific version of Windows.
Reduced color mode Uses a limited set of colors in the program. Some older programs are designed to use fewer colors.
Run in 640 × 480 screen resolution Try this setting if the graphics for the program appear jagged or are rendered improperly.
Override high DPI display scaling behavior If your program doesn’t appear correctly on a PC with a high DPI display (appearing blurry or in the incorrect size), try one of the following options:
  • Application scaling – Disable all Windows scaling settings and only use the app developer's setting. This option was called Disable display scaling on high DPI settings in previous versions of Windows.
  • System scaling – Overrides the app’s DPI settings and uses the Windows system DPI settings. The app might appear blurry.
  • System (enhanced) – Use Windows system settings optimized to increase the size or resolution of apps developed for regular DPI screens. This setting won’t work for all applications.
Run this program as an administrator Some programs require administrator privileges to run properly. If you aren't signed in to your PC as an administrator, this option is unavailable.
Change settings for all users Apply the settings for that program to all accounts on the PC, and select
12303_en-us_4

Change settings for all users. You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

daveybrat thanks,

I am going to test this out to see if you have the best answer.
so far, your chances look VERY promising

it is a device, not a program name, though there was a utility disk. the cannon program?

QUESTIONS
1) the program name might be "Cannon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX"?
2) would the .EXE be the name of the program?
3) if it is a device that you are attaching to a computer, what is the program name?
4) is there any way to eliminate cortonna and all that is destroying the Earth so that the Earth has a chance to heal, giving power back to the people, or for me to have my "system" back as it used to function,
hear%20ya.gif

such as doing redistribution of the wealth of everyone over 17 million dollars, for the good of We The People, the United States of America, where We The People in other
nations is the commonfolk, just like you and me, so that my computer "system" can revert back to way it was with the previous windows when windows USED TO BE
"user friendly", which was the whole reason why computers were even made in the first place?

SIDE NOTE
1) "Cannon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX" appear on my computer, and yet cortonna says that "BEST RESULT: no results found for Cannon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX"
2) i did what you said: "Enter the name of the program in the search box on the taskbar, press and hold (or right-click) the search result, and then select Open file location."
and i did not see any option to "open file location". when you say "press and hold", you mean press the enter key and hold it?
good%20night.gif

3) i am not fond of coronna, as it searches on the internet without my consent or without the consent of We The People to have of World War 3, arbitrarily doing what it wants
to do. one minute i am searching for something on my computer and then, the next thing i know cortonna is taking me all across the world.
4) however, i manually found the file (by another method) and ran the exe, however, there appears to be issues now:
"printer is in use or an error has occurred. check status. scanner driver will now be closed. code: 2,140,21"
my scanner had absolutly no issues BEFORE windows 10, so windows 10 has completely destroyed my scanner!!!
thanks windows 10 for being so "USER FRIENDLY".

i know about the compatibility mode, but yes, this is a good idea. just because, i will try this anyways.
UPDATE: nope, same error message. set to compatibility of windows 7 when it worked just fine.

so these are the choices that i have
1) try recommended settings
2) troubleshoot program

it says "windows compatibility mode: windows 8"

oh wow, i didn't know there was a "troubleshooting option" in the compatibility section! that's nice to know!!!!!
OUTCOME: unsuccessful. still recieving an error:confused_old:
