Printer memory question

Does adding more printer memory speed up print times? I print large photoshop files and other graphic files on my HP Laserjet 4 and sometimes it takes really really long!!! Right now it has 6mbs.

don't think so. I think all extra mem does is increase the complexity of the things you can print. I had an old laser printer that only printed half of a picture sometimes because it didn't have enough ram. I think that only things that limits print speed is parallel port speed and the physical speed at with the printer can print. (the later being more significant)

I'd have to agree with jdm on this one.😉 I have an HP Laserjet 6P that started with 2mb and I installed 24mb for a total of 26mb. My print speeds have not increased but I can print some documents now that would always mess up before.

Absolutely correc! The printer ram size does not enhanced speed (of the printer) but rather provides a bigger buffer so the computer can off load the print request and return control back to the system. It does speed the system by returning control as soon as the print request is accepted by the printer.😎
